Primary Job Function:
  • The primary role of the Business Development Manager is to prospect for new clients by networking, cold calling, advertising or other means of generating interest from potential clients. They must then plan persuasive approaches and pitches that will convince potential clients to do business with the company.
  • BDM is required to grow and retain existing accounts by presenting new solutions and services to clients.
  • Strategic planning is a key part of this job description, since it is the business manager’s responsibility to develop the pipeline of new business coming into the company. This requires a thorough knowledge of the market, the solutions/services the company can provide, and of the company’s competitors.

Job Responsibilities:
Responsible for BD strategy across English Africa Cluster
  • In collaboration with commercial, legal, Ops BD and finance – Plans, analyzes, negotiates and executes all forms of strategic partnerships including in-licensing, product acquisitions, JV’s, co-promotions and distribution agreements for Africa
  • Co-ordinates and consolidates forecasts, conducts market research and builds P&L
  • Present business cases for each opportunity identified to Affiliate and Regional Senior Management
  • Worked with cross functional teams to project manage the due diligence process.
  • Identify, Build and maintain relationships with suppliers across the globe, positioning  the company as a partner of choice

Responsible for Portfolio Strategy across Africa markets
  • Develop  the company’s Playbook for the EAC Africa region, working with key stakeholders to map current portfolio, identify gaps, consolidate forecasts and collectively drive contractual agreements with third parties
  • Geo-Expansion ( the company Legacy products): Develop a roadmap of all  the company owned products, working with cross functional teams to select molecules, prioritize countries, identify business potential and create a roll-out plan for all prioritized countries across EAC Africa with well articulated forecasts
  • Geo-Expansion ( the company acquired products): Work with the company global team to identify potential from  the company’s newly acquired portfolio for all key regions in Africa with well articulated forecasts .
  • Identify gaps in  the company’s portfolio and scout for opportunities to fill portfolio gaps.

Business Development Planning
  • Attend industry functions, such as association events and conferences, and provide feedback and information on market and creative trends.
  • Present to and consult with mid and senior level management on business trends with a view to developing new services, products, and distribution channels.
  • Identify opportunities for campaigns, services, and distribution channels that will lead to an increase in sales.
  • Using knowledge of the market and competitors, identify and develop the company’s unique selling propositions and differentiators.

Minimum Experience/Training Required
  • 10 years’ experience in pharmaceutical, related industry
  •  Strong leadership skills
  • Skills - Networking, Persuasion, Prospecting, Public Speaking, Market Knowledge
Experience/Education :
  • University degree. Additional education in Public Health, Sales, Marketing or Health Economics is advantageous.
